3 Things You Didn't Know About Mississippi Primaries and Elections
1. Home buyers in Mississippi are able to register to vote during the closing process of buying their home. "Move the Vote" was started in 2003 by the state auditor's office, the Mississippi Association of Realtors, and the secretary of state's office. The real-estate agent can complete the voter registration form while preparing the closing documents. The home buyer signs the form, and then it is mailed to the office of the local circuit clerk.
2. The state of Mississippi hosted caucuses until 1988, when it held its first presidential primary.
3. In the past seven presidential elections, the people of Mississippi have voted for Republicans. Jimmy Carter was the last Democrat they voted for—in the 1976 election.
