US company aims to treat Mexican radioactive waste

This is not okay. The US should deal with their own waste, Mexico should deal with theirs. Trucking Mexico's waste through our communities and across our highways for a private company to profit is not okay.

This is a bad idea for all involved I suspect. More ideas on how to deal with this growing problem are urgently needed.

Horrible idea. Since when is the US Mexico's radwaste dump? Is this their revenge on us for Arizona? The 500 tons of radioactive material will have to be shipped through US cities and countryside; incineration does not destroy radioactivity, just spreads it in smoke that goes into the environment and concentrates it in ash that then must be disposed of (do we get to ship it back to Mexico?); and what, we don't have enough of a mess in our own northwest from Hanford, Fukushima's plume and the unknown radiation coming from the tsunami debris? Have we as a nation lost our collective minds? Never mind; rhetorical question.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Radioactive waste is a hazard to great to import!! It is a hazard for all the communities that transport it as well. UNACCEPTABLE!

Damcho Dronma of CA 3:52PM May 03, 2012

What could possibly go wrong? Everyone knows these schemes never have mishaps and trucks never have accidents and that incinerator pollution control systems never break down or fail.

Rick Barrett of WA 3:01PM May 03, 2012

Why would we take radioactive waste from Mexico when we have hundreds of thousands of tons of our own ?
