BRUSSELS (AP) — Transport workers in Brussels have continued a strike for the second day after an employee was beaten to death Saturday morning.
The company that runs public transport in Brussels says that metros, busses and trams won't start running again until a meeting with the interior minister to discuss improved safety.
The ministry said Sunday a meeting between interior minister Joelle Milquet and Societe des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles representatives will now take place Monday afternoon.
The STIB has been demanding stepped-up security on its transport routes, citing an increasing number of violent acts against its employees.
A STIB supervisor was beaten and killed Saturday morning after he was called to the site of an accident between a bus and a car. Belgian media has reported a suspect was arrested.
