The only way to help the most people in this country, including families like Trayvon's which fit the profile of the vast majority of American families (not wealthy class), is through passage of sensible economics policies that better serve all, not just the few.
In today's debate on C-Span, The Republicans put up one of their own, a Representative from Puerto Rico. He was saying that his Mom once took him through the 'rich' neighborhoods and explained things like "son, one day if you work hard you will live in one of these mansions too".
Well, that mentality perfectly explains the conservative's plan, doesn't it? If you want permanently instantiated INEQUALITY, then it is the plan for you on economics. What they propose will serve the wealthiest, and corporate monopoly and hegemony the best.
Many developing countries, like Rwanda and Cameroon, and India, have gross wealth inequality that never changes. The United States, on the other hand, and in contrast to what was said today on the house floor, was founded AGAINST this type of economic culture which existed in Britain at the time of the founding of our country. For example, Jefferson's economics were more about an agriculture based economy - where wealth was very evenly distributed among the people by contrast with today's dire situation.
If the Republican's economics plan were put in, we would see a permanently divided nation, with a tiny minority with gigantic political power able to stitch in virtually whatever they want into law, and the masses nearly powerless to stop it, more and more, year by year.
The other side is NOT about handouts or Communism, but it is about limited socialism which is perfectly American, from its roots. Mitt Romney's Weather Channel is running a program currently all about the Alaskan coast guard. What a brilliant example of socialism in action! Why, they don't even ask a person's race or whether you can afford it before they come to the rescue, do they? Looks like some government jobs are pretty good, and not improvable in efficiency through any other means judging by what's on the Weather Channel currently.
The growing wealth divide, by the experts like Robert Reich ("Aftershock"), is contrary to American sound economics policy. The Republicans are more under the persuasion of non-mainstream utopian laissez-faire economics theories, like those of Ayn Rand (www.aynrand.org), where if you just give more to the wealthiest, wealth will trickle down.
However, the Dem's economic proposals are much more sensible, and centrist. The federal budget deficit is not a mortgage that can be foreclosed on us by creditors, and it is fear-mongering to say it is. Let's not base our choice on the spectre of deficit fears, while at the same time we take measured steps to grow the economy through investment and that way sensibly address the long-term deficit. But, the democrats need to fill out their case, and deliver it, or they could lose this debate
