The news out of the White House Monday mainly revolved around the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, which took place on the South Lawn all morning. And while there was a lot of chatter about a life-size Easter Bunny (played by a White House staffer) and some sightings of the first dogs, Sunny and Bo, the weirdest “animal” in attendance was a giant mosquito.
“On the court was a man dressed as a mosquito,” pointed out pool reporter Sarah D. Wire, the Washington correspondent for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, who told Whispers the mosquito was “by far the oddest creature there.”
The big bug is actually a walking advertisement for a bigger cause. Named “Mozzie the Mosquito,” he’s a mascot for the United Nations Foundation’s "Nothing But Nets" campaign, which “helps spread the buzz about malaria,” according to a release.
This year marked Mozzie’s White House Easter Egg Roll debut. “Mozzie can be found in the Eggtivity Zone, where he will challenge kids in soccer skills and teach them about the fun ways they can help send bed nets to protect children in Africa from malaria,” the release continued.
We’re guessing that means that Mozzie doesn’t bite.
