Joel McHale will headline the 2014 White House Correspondents' Dinner. Never heard of him? We don’t blame you. And we are here to help.

McHale’s main gig is hosting “The Soup,” a weekly talk recap show on E! in which McHale ruthlessly mocks the best and worst pop culture has to offer. Some of his favorite subjects include Brian Williams, Miley Cyrus and the reality TV shows on his own home network.

He also stars on NBC’s “Community,” a sitcom that has a cult following but flagging viewership. He plays the snarky Jeff Winger, a student at the fictional Greendale Community College.

With most of his venom on “The Soup” directed at pop culture's low-hanging fruit, McHale more or less stays away from politics, so one could see his bipartisan appeal. But that doesn’t mean he's G-rated. For instance, one of his signature segments is known as "Oprah's VaJayJay."

Already, he's promising to offend his audience of politicos:

We’ll have to wait until May 3 when his act will be broadcast from the Washington Hilton to see what the White House Correspondents’ Association lets him get away with.
