As America says goodbye to “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the folks over at the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University analyzed 44,000 of the comedian’s jokes since 1992.

Leno’s top political target, by more than 1,000 jokes, was former President Bill Clinton, with 4,607 jokes aimed his way.

“Leno’s monologues focused on power and scandal, and Bill Clinton was a top twofer,” explained CMPA Director Robert Lichter. (Monica Lewinsky, Clinton’s main mistress, had 454 jokes told about her.)

Clinton’s runner-up was President George W. Bush, with 3,239 jokes, which makes sense as Leno skewered Democrats 15 percent more than their Republican counterparts, the study discovered.

Of note, is that former Vice President Al Gore came in ahead of current President Barack Obama. Gore had 1,026 lobbed at his head, while Obama only got 1,011. That being said, Leno was around for all eight of the Clinton years, while is departing the “Tonight Show” before the end of Obama’s second term.
