"Anchorman 2" star Will Ferrell has received plenty of compliments for his comedy – including the Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for Humor – but he says one of the best came from first lady Michelle Obama.
"We got to go to one of the White House Christmas parties and we got to sit next to the first lady," Ferrell recalled during an appearance Tuesday night at the Newseum in Washington. "And she said, 'I just have to tell you, me and my staff, this 'Landlord' – oh my gosh, I love that thing.'"
Obama was referring to Ferrell's 2007 sketch on the Funny or Die website, in which Pearl McKay, his comedy partner Adam McKay's 2-year-old daughter, plays his drunk, sassy landlord.
"So [Michelle Obama's] sitting with her staff, watching the 'Landlord' and I think she literally said, 'B----, where's my money?'" Ferrell said, quoting Obama quoting Pearl McKay. "I immediately called Adam; I was like, 'You're not going to believe this.'"
