White House Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses tries to be tight lipped about the president's preference when it comes to desserts. (The first lady, after all, champions healthy eating.) But it's well known that the president digs pie. And Yosses, nicknamed "the crustmaster," says it's the crust that Obama finds the best part.
"Well, I don't want to reveal too much about the president's tastes or speculate about them," Yosses said Wednesday during a "We the Geeks" White House Google+ hangout. "But, really, my impression is if you just served the crust, he'd be OK."
At last year's White House Thanksgiving feast the Obamas served six kinds of pie -- banana cream pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, sweet potato pie, huckleberry pie and cherry pie.
Yosses was joined by Food Network Chef Anne Burrell and former NASA astronaut Ron Garan to discuss the science of cooking. Yosses explained, scientifically, the difference between making bread and pie dough. White House Office of Science and Technology Policy's Kumar Garg moderated the discussion and also asked the panel if they had ever experienced a culinary disaster.
Yosses again stayed mum.
"As professional chefs, we always try to convert it into a success," he said.
