Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., did a little bit of politicking with his time Tuesday night. He spent a portion of his evening downstairs at P.J. Clarke's grip and grinning with party-goers, attending a book party for MSNBC's Chris Matthews. And then, like clockwork, he would head upstairs to catch the Boston Red Sox game before repeating the process and coming downstairs again. (The Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 1-0.)
Matthews was clearly jazzed to have a sitting U.S. Senator in the house. "Edward Markey," Matthews yelled across the room. "Who was once a member of congress – and now he's a senator," the "Hardball" host joked.
Besides Markey, Whispers spied power couples Andrea Mitchell and Alan Greenspan, along with MSNBC's Alex Wagner, who recently became engaged to Sam Kass, the White House's Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition Policy. "Millions of men are crying now, millions are crying because you're getting married," Matthews yelled.
Additionally, Fox News Channel's Bret Baier stopped by, along with MSNBC contributor and former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. "Where's Michael?" Matthews asked. "See, we have Republicans, they're all over the place. Anybody that you do not know is a Republican," Matthews stated.
