Prominent black conservative commentator Kevin Jackson is giving away an AR-15 rifle to "commemorate freedom" and to remember how gun ownership and black history overlap.

"[A gun] was necessary in freeing America from the tyranny of a king... and again in freeing black people from the tyranny of bondage," Jackson writes in an email announcing the contest. "As after the Emancipation Proclamation, armed blacks fought back racist Democrat intimidation by the Ku Klux Klan."

Jackson isn't the first conservative to raffle off a free gun in response to the national gun control conversation. In March, "Joe The Plumber" held a contest for an AR-15 to protest the way guns were being talked about in America post-Newtown. Georgia Gun Owners did a similar giveaway in January to mobilize gun owners against a proposed assault weapon ban.

Entries for Jackson's AR-15 giveaway, the winner of which will be randomly selected, must be in by April 30. The fine print notes that the winner must submit a signed copy of a Federal Firearms License from a dealer in order to receive the rifle.
