the speech seemed long on vague ideas and short on specifics as this kind of speech will often be. Not much on the "real" state of the union in relation to our debt, no penalties yet to the companies/individuals that sunk our economy while getting high compensation. certainly more of a rah rah and campaign talk.

will miss you Paul!

Sam of VA - That oil drilling moratorium was lifted back in 2010. The pubs said the moratorium would kill the industry. They were wrong. As a matter of fact, a couple more extensive oil fields in the gulf have since been found and they are going to drill.

The Keystone Project was killed because the Pubs put a time limit on it. We don't even know the route yet. Nebraska Republican Governor isn't keen on it. This is not a done deal, just postponed until we know what the route is and what kind of impact it will have. I guess if you support the pipeline then you also support imminent domain. So Sam, if that pipeline was going through your property, you'd be all for it? This is a big project, takes time and planing. Doubt even if approved it would even get started for a few years. The Pubs put a deadline on it and now look like fools.

TPaine of KY - The Great Recession was a hand-off from the Bush adminstration. TARP started under Bush. Since Obama has taken office, yes unemployment went up and now it's going down. You think we can fix this mess in just a couple of years? Do you realize how long it took to bounce back from the Great Depression? I bet if our Pres was a Pub you wouldn't be so critical. We avoided a Great Depression. Other accomplishments in first term, stock market has almost fully rebounded. Osama is dead and so are most of the Al Qaeda leaders, The auto industry was saved from destruction. Housing is still an issue, but there are no backsies to remedy what happened under Bush, who bragged about record home ownership in his SOTU speeches. We know now, it was a house of cards. The debt downgrade, hey, Obama was willing to sign a grand plan, but the Pubs wouldn't budge and compromise. We are out of Iraq and getting out of Afghanistan, two wars Bush started and neither he finished. It will take awhile for the U.S. to get out of this hole that Bush passed on. I'm not saying Dems are great, but the stink from this mess came from the Pubs. Take responsiblity for your party's screw-ups.

Just curious, take out the prescription drug plan, the three unpaid for wars (yes, I include terrorism), the Bush tax cuts and guess what, future debt decreases dramatically.

Not only that Matt from VA, they blame the Dems for Welfare. Newt says his Pub Congress fixed it. They take all the credit and give Clinton none. Don't like it? Blame the Pubs....they were the ones that "fixed" it.

I find it amazing that "Allen of CA" and other conservatives always complain about having to pay taxes to support people on unemployment. The unemployment (and welfare) budgets make up a small fraction of where our tax dollars go. And yet, of ALL the ways in which our taxes our spent (on war, foreign aid, bridges to nowhere, etc, etc) they focus on unemployment to help buy the basics for their fellow citizens. It's shameful, and shows their true colors.

Matt of VA 7:22PM January 24, 2012

The thing that cracks me up about all this doom and gloom coming from the Pubs is where were they when their president (Bush), screwed everything up? Where were they when the Pubs were in control of Congress and did NOTHING. I get it you hate Dems, but why are Pubs so great? You want taxes cut? Done. Lowest rates in years, but still, the Pubs whine. Want spending cuts? Done. Now they just want more, but heaven forbid we reform the military. They just passed a $662 billion dollar miltary bill filled with crap. Where's the outrage? All the Pubs voted for it. No, this is not the end of Democracy, this is Democracy in action. You don't like it, vote, and stop whining. When the vote doesn't go your way, that's called Democracy. Stop crying like little childre and understand, it does't always get to be your way. The Pub party represents maybe 35 percent of the people, tea party even less. Last I checked majority rules. Don't like it? Change it by using logical arguments instead of saying everybody who doesn't agree with you is a traitor, is an idiot, is a socialist, etc. You will attract more bees with honey than with vinegar. I have a lot of smart Pub friends. We just have policy disagreements, but I can still respect them. Wish you all could learn a little tolerance and understand Deomcracy doesn't always meaan getting what your minority opinion wants.

OMG. This POS POTUS should STFU on the SOTU. ROFLMAO here in AZ.

Earl Grey of AZ 7:02PM January 24, 2012

Well, here's his record from the first term: The Great Recession with only 58% of the working age population employed - the lowest since 1983. US sovereign debt downgraded for the first time in US history. Record high bankruptcies and foreclosures. National debt at 100%+ of GDP. The federal government’s annual budget deficit at 10% is the highest since WWII. Long term unemployme¬nt at 45.9% of total unemployed is the highest since the 1930s. Slowest job growth since WWII. Home ownership at 59.7% is the lowest since 1965. Highest number of Americans on food stamps and in poverty in our history. AND the Arab Spring is quickly turning into Springtime with Hitler.

I am all for fairness in opportunity to find a job, to pursue happiness, to live one's life free of government tyranny. I am all for ending bailouts to banks, big business, big unions, and big government. I am tired of being taxed to pay for people who work for cash on the side while collecting unemployment insurance. I believe we should provide an opportunity for community jobs as a condition of receiving government money. It is not slavery it is an opportunity to provide an income for one's family and help the community.

Enough is enough. OMG. Obama must go.....
