If Days Were Twice as Long, Obama'd Write His Own Speeches

January 24, 2012 RSS Feed Print

White House Chief speechwriter Jon Favreau may be the man of the moment as final touches are put on President Obama's State of the Union address this evening, but he knows the limitations of his job.

Former Newsweek reporter Richard Wolffe, moderating a panel of former White House speechwriters this morning at the Bipartisan Policy Center, relayed the story of Favreau's hiring as Obama's chief writer. "He was very nervous about working for a president who could write all of his own speeches much better than he could, and so he says to Robert Gibbs, 'Why do you need a speechwriter?' And Gibbs said to him, 'If we had 48 hours in a day, we wouldn't need you at all.'" [See 3 things missing from Obama's campaign.]

No doubt Favreau himself has yearned for those 48-hour days as tonight's speech has drawn closer.

some comments on this page are still blaming Bush! A sad admittance that no valid arguments can be made to support Obama. Personal attacks are used in debates by those that have nothing to say. Now Obama can start to blame the real failure, the previous President. HIMSELF. I"ve never seen someone blame so much, so much pride from a person that can never fail. Reagan could have blamed Carter for his horrible job, but instead he MANNED up and got the job done. Reagan admitted that the government IS the problem. You can trust someone that can admit their own faults. Obama blames, has been caught lying, forces his terrible "health" plan on citizens, (anti-freedom) bows to foreign kings, won't support the military, spends more than any President EVER, terrible economy, no jobs, wants to enslave people to government programs, chains businesses from being able to hire workers, where does it end? Why would anyone ever vote for such a terrible record as his? The media lies are one answer. People that get "free" things from the government is another. Buying votes by handing out freebies to welfare recipients. But its not "free" at all. We only get a small fraction of those tax dollars back. Obama is costing us all dearly in the long run, and enslaving our children/grandchildren in debt.

YOU CANT WRITE SPEECHES WHILE RIDING IN A GOLF CART DUMMY!!!

Obama can write his own speeches which is much much more than Bush ever could. Bush could barely even give a speech. Nice to see a Pres standing in front of Congress not looking like a deer caught in headlights.

You Pubs will criticize anything this Prez does, but will you ever look in the mirror and defend Bush? It's time to stop criticizing and actually provide some direction. Easy to throw stones, hard to govern. Quick name three great things Bush did?
