New Book Portrays George W. Bush as a Forgiving Man

Be very careful Matthew and examine your heart whether you have truly felt God's forgiveness. Whether you are aware of his forgivness. The sins I committed over time were ones I never expected to be forgiven and they were. And if you truly believe that we are all sheep who've gone astray, and understand the grace of the master, then I'd be very careful. Every heart is sinful. In God's economy, he hates sin whether it was a one time drunk, a one night stand or a pattern of plagrism. George Bush is a hero of mine, and it is because of the fact that he was a drunk, a loser, and a sinner, that I admire him.

This incident reveals the power of Christian mercy, which humbles sinners, and draws them closer to God and their fellow men. Pres. Bush understood that the man was humiliated and repentant, and used the opportunity to exhibit Christian graciousness. It changed the man, and brought him and the president closer together, inspiring him to be more honest. Now that's change you can believe in.

The reason I'm not particularly moved by this story is that George W. Bush SHOULD have ostracized the man. Goeglein's actions were (a) dishonest, (b) potentially harmful to the people whose work he stole and passed off as his own, and (c) selfish in that they put his own career about the welfare of the administration which he served and, presumably, wanted to have succeed. This wasn't someone who had a momentary lapse in judgment (getting into a car drunk while thinking he's sober enough to drive) or character (having a one-night affair); these actions were deliberate and clearly took place over an extended period of time.
