It is the "I upped my income; Up yours" syndrome so prevelent with those who attain fame and fortune without the ability to back it up. Most of those people get to spend their own money unwisely. Obama spends ours.

The biggest problem the White House has is their inability to understand the optics of their actions when the country is on its back economically.
Not only the President, his family but his advisors are tone deaf to what the appearance of largesse has on America.
Fortunately, they are beyond changing their ways virtually guaranteeing a change in the residents at 1600 Pensylvania Ave next year

OK, White House - come up with the First Lady's tab. And be sure to include ALL of the expenses, like secretaries, kids (who were listed as staff) and hangers-on.

In looking at the comments posted it would appear that common sence is prevailing and that Ms. Obama is abusing the system and the taxpayers money.

I'm surprised she didn't have to take a couple more aircraft for a couple limos and several dozen Secret Service men.
What a complete waste of taxpayer money!
Wonder if the taxpayers would be willing to furnish me with an aircraft to visit my ancestor's homeland.

No worries, come Jan 2013 the whole lot will be buying their own tickets, and the gravy train will be over.
BTW, why did she need to take her kids, family members, and friends if it was an official trip? Just saying.
What the hell, just raise taxes and everything will be fine. Nothing like responsibility in government. And please don't get me started on stretch Pelosi.
