Thats awesome. It only proves that there were rubes in high places in the 50s, but some conspiracy theorist is gonna point to this as a 'smoking gun' that a clone Yeti army is being formed under Greenland

The reporter needs to update their reading comprehension skills. Poor effort.

What I get out of this is not that the State Department believed in the Yeti. Rather, the State Department was being sensitive, and rightly so, to the concerns of the Nepalese Government.

Has the government set a tax rate on the licenses yeti?

Some things, like Yeti-hunting, should be left to the private sector.

Not only were they searching for the Abominable Snowman, they found him...the Yeti has been secretly been working for the CIA, ever since...

This letter doesn't say that the State Department actually believed in the Yeti. It simply states a few rules that these expeditions will have to observe, mostly to stay on good terms with the Government of Nepal. One of key the rules for preparing response letters for the U.S. government (as I did for 40 years) is to be polite and respectful of the citizens, even if they're sometimes kooks. (I'm pretty sure the embassy staff got a good laugh out of the letter.)

I agree with STEVE of MN 100% Reading comprehension appears to be a problem for the reporters and the archivist.

Jay O'Callaghan of NY 8:41PM September 02, 2011

The regulations referred to appear to be Nepalese regulations not United States' regulations. There is nothing here that says that the U.S. government "believed" in Yeti - only that the U.S. government/embassy wanted its citizens to follow the foreign government's regulations. This is just a lot of hype over nothing.
