Let's save ourselves the political questions of honoring any particular president. As an African American I am offended by the idea of returning to February 22 and honoring a racist slave owner from our past, "father of our country" or not.

The American Revolution is one of the most important movements to ever shape the world. Everyone should know how the Americans, led by our resourceful and insightful leader George Washington, was able to beat the most powerful force in the world at the time. I agree that restoring Washington's birthday as a holiday on 2/22 - whatever day of the week it may fall on - would honor him and maybe slow some of the car and furniture sales hype that currently takes place.

Let's celebrate George Washington on February 22.
