Obama Campaign Gear Makes Fun of Birther Issue

He hasn't declared his bid for reelection yet, but President Obama's 2012 campaign today has opened up a souvenir store with a smack down of his harshest critics: so-called birthers who question where the Democrat was born.

The "Made in the USA T-Shirt" shows a smiling president on the front over "Made in the USA" lettering and on the back is a copy of his birth certificate. The text on the purchase page for the $25 T-shirt reads: "Last year, the President said: 'I can't spend all of my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead.' This is about as close as we can get: make a donation today to get your Made In The USA T-shirt."

In an email announcing the campaign store, Deputy Campaign Manager Julianna Smoot tells us, "We just launched our full 2012 campaign online store, where you can pick up new shirts, stickers, signs, water bottles, and all sorts of other gear. Those '08 bumper stickers and T-shirts are a source of pride, but getting your 2012 stuff now can show your determination to see through all the work we've started together. Donate $30 or more today and get your 2012 T-shirt. There's a lot to do in the coming months to build this campaign, and the President's counting on us to be the ones to get that work started. How about a new 2012 shirt to wear while you're out there at phone banks, knocking on doors, or just going about your day?"

The Obama store has been open at least a month, with the t-shirt described along with a companion coffee mug.

I got my birth certificate t-shirt and mug and both were manufactured in the USA (people had asked).

... nice thought on the T-Shirt. .. If only any of it were true. .. The "certificate" is image only, -- it looks authentic though. .. 'Made-in-America'.?? .. Yeah, --- right. .. The shirt should read: "Ought to have been -- Made-in-America". ... ... ...
