Book: Liberal Media Distorts News Bias

Excellent book. It was well written and the research was par excellence adding scholarly research into the discussion of bias in the media.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will be a popular topic until liberal and neo-conservative ideologies finally fail the nation taking our economy and culture down with them.

I hope we don't end up in the ash heap of our former greatness as occurred with Athenian democracy.

At least we can sit in our ashes hiding behind nuclear weaponry rather than being completely taken over as occurred to the Athenians.

I hope for better but see that's what we're on track toward.

I have believed for many years, at least since the Reagan years, that the MSM accounted for at least a 5 to 7 percent added voter edge to democrats in national elections. In the 2012 election, where the MSM actually campaigned for Barack Obama, I agree with the 7 to 10 figure promoted in this book.

The MSM (Mainstream Media) apparent shift to the right was total expected . Not an ideological path , or even a journalistic one for that mater. The MSM is not unlike the Sports Books on the Las Vegas strip, trying to balance wagers on both sides of the contest, making money no mater who wins.Especially in light of the "Citizens United" ruling by the Court, that allows corporations from the world over to influence American political races. But considering the incessant drive of Global Conquest by the U.S. maybe they should have a say. The illegality at a State level however should be clear. I digress. The MSM by directing their bias towards the underdog and compelling the polls to reflect an even money bet, on any political contest, realize the best profit$. Their intent and integrity should also be clear. The best Government money can buy. We must once again unite and opposed the insolent greed and disregard of the 1 %. As we celebrate our independence from the baron lords and oppression let each firework inspire us to restore the disillusionment of the electorate.

brian, read the article. The professor analyzed the language used by news media statistically to determine how conservative or liberal it was. Conservative items scored low, liberal items scored high. Guess you need to learn how to read.

What exactly is Groseclose's "absolute" liberal vs. conservative scale based on? Mein Kampf?

I opened The Daily Advance today (11/4/2011) and was delighted to see an article “Tyson delivers 30,000 pounds of food to Food Bank”. I was especially eager to read the article because I promoted the contest to everyone I know, I encouraged them to contact everyone they know – I was a part of the victory. My delight turned to disgust as I read the article. The article is a news article, not an opinion piece, not a political piece. The writer injected his political views into a news story – and he mixed it in a way meant to influence people, perhaps without their even noticing. He put his political statement after a quote, confusing the reader.

I noticed – if I want a political opinion I’ll look on the editorial or political pages. Keep political views out of the news!!!!! If I had known my efforts would be used to promote a political cause I probably wouldn’t have participated – I am sure there are many others who agree with me - and perhaps the food bank wouldn’t have won.

Below is the section (for your reference):

“This is a bittersweet occasion,” Haddad said. “It would be a great day if we can successfully eradicate child hunger by 2015,” which is a priority of the Obama administration.

If Fox News is conservative, then the New York Times is so far left there is no possible description for them. The same applies to ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, and a host of others.

Druge "might" be centrist. The left is attempting to redefine what left is, so the public believes they are not as far left as they are. This socialist propaganda tactic has been used many times in history & eventually, the public ends up discarding almost all the left has to say as biased drivel designed to propagandize whatever issue the left is trying to sell the public.

One day, once this socialist trend is ended, as it surely will be, America will begin to get more & new news organizations who value truth & not tailored rhetoric.

Professors are expected to publish.

What they are expected to publish is another matter entirely.

Apart from tears, only time could wear everything away. While feeling is being processed by time, conflicts would be reconciled as time goes by, just like a cup of tea that is being continuously diluted.
