An effort so far limited to state legislatures to reintroduce the gold standard to government spending is moving to the presidential stage in a bid to get Washington to adopt the anti-inflation measure. This week, a group promoting the gold standard plans to run ads in Iowa, home to the first presidential caucus, and launch a bus tour where several presidential candidates including Newt Gingrich and Rep. Michele Bachmann will participate. [See a slide show of GOP 2012 contenders.]

One of the ads says: "You're not imagining it. Ever since President Nixon took America off the gold standard, the value of our money has been allowed to rise and fall based on the decisions of politicians and Wall Street bankers."

The ads are being sponsored by American Principles in Action to inform voters about the gold standard and how it would control inflation, limit government spending and encourage economic growth. "This campaign will be integral in conveying the relevance of the gold standard to the presidential race," said American Principles Executive Director Andy Blom. "Each one presents a sharp, humorous interpretation of the most pressing economic issues right now. We expect them to be very interesting to Iowa voters." The group is teaming with the Iowa Tea Party for a bus tour. Besides Gingrich and Bachmann, other presidential contenders planning to participate include Herman Cain, Gary Johnson, Tim Pawlenty, and Rick Santorum. The tour will last 18 days, end with a rally in Des Moines on July 2, and be broadcast live by Tea Party Review online.

According to the group, returning to a gold standard will stop the government from printing money and living on debt. They equate the change to forcing Washington to use an ATM card instead. The timing is good for the group with new government reports showing a boost in inflation.

Very interesting story. I think it's good that these individuals will be taken on this tour. Ron Paul's not being invited could be viewed as a snub...but Ron Paul already KNOWS what's up with the financial crisis and really doesn't need to be educated in this matter.

It's Bachman, Pawlenty and Gingrich that need to be educated in these matters.

Ron Paul has been stating that the "momentum" of the GOP issues is swinging in his favor.

Citizens are waking up to the Federal Reserve and the Fractional Banking System that has gotten us into this financial crisis. Hopefully our elected officials will begin to hear pleas to "change" (and begin to end) this banking system.

The education of our elected officials about fractional banking is the key. Ron Paul has been trying to educate them for many years (he has the voting record to prove it).

Our pleas will be heard if we help Ron Paul get the word out to the citizens and elected offcials.

Encourage your elected officials to re-think our current Federal Reserve system of fractional banking.

Encourge other citizens to look into the fractional banking system used by the Federal Reserve.

Newt the Grinch was the pied-piper of the 1994 Republican "revolution" making sure that it went nowhere, dissapating its political capital. Bachman is another shrieking powerc'nt of a phoney conservative, her voting record is one of police statism (voting to continue the USA PATRIOT Act) and warmongering.

There is no such thing as a politican who wants to restore Constitutionally limited, Republican govt. If they did, the answer would be simple ... tell the truth about Social Security. Admit publically to the fact that THERE IS NO LAW REQUIRING ANYONE TO OBTAIN OR USE AN SSN, AND NO LAW REQUIRING ANYONE TO HAVE AN SSN OR USE ONE TO WORK IN THE US. Admit that it is the PRIVATE SECTOR that forces people into SSN use BY POLICY, not any law. Admit that SSN use as a taxpayer ID number is what incurs, for most people, liability for FICA, federal income tax, state income tax, local income tax, and pretty soon Obamacare. Admit that while voluntary SSN use is what incurs liability for federal income tax, the federal income tax via income tax withholding is the burden that a system of fiat debt based money places on the backs of the American people, and without the income tax, the fed goes bye-bye.

Socialistic insecurity and the federal income tax are the biggest financial crimes in the history of Planet Earth. Either a politician is ignorant of the mechanism for making people liable for the tax, in which case he is CRIMINALLY ignorant if he is in office. Or, he knows what the deal is, and keeps his mouth shut, making him a party to the fraud, in which case he is a criminal, plain and simple, and belongs in prison.

In addition to telling the truth about Socialistic Insecurity on the campaign trail, a non criminal politician should also push for a law that requires full disclosure in plain language of all powers of atty granted, rights waived, and liabilities incurred anytime anyone anywhere for any reason asks for a socialist slavestate number (SSN).

Ron Paul's supporters have been remarking, as of late, that Presidential contenders are stealing his ideas. I had my doubts until I saw this report. I am stunned that Mr. Paul is not with them for this tour. Is this a snub?

Among intelligent people, this will not work.
