The world's queen of influence doesn't wear a crown. But she carries a big stick.

In our latest Washington Whispers poll, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is by far and away viewed as the most influential woman on the world stage. Women and men agreed equally and she's the pick especially of those over 35 years old.

For our Synovate eNation poll, we decided to ask about female influentials because Queen Elizabeth II had just wrapped up an historic trip to Ireland where she took pains to cool the long history of bad feelings. But when we asked which female leader is the most important on the world stage, Clinton beat out the queen 37 percent to 28 percent. Also receiving 28 percent was first lady Michelle Obama. Americans, meanwhile, didn't show much love for two key foreign women leaders, German Chancellor Angela Merkel or the French first lady Carla Bruni. Merkel, who's scheduled as President Obama's next state visit guest, received just 9 percent while Bruni snuck in with 1 percent.
