Senators Propose Closing State Offices to Save on Budget

We need to abandon pretense and start auctioning off senate and house seats to the highest bidder to cut the deficit. At least we would have an accurate idea of who and what we're dealing with and not all this phoney double talk.

The reporter almost got it right - the allotment is based on population, but it isn't a fixed # of offices, it is a square footage allotment. Regardless, there is fat there to be cut!

Senator Casey (D-PA) has seven (7) offices in Pennsylvania and one (1) in DC. I know from several attempts to speak to a person rather than an answering machine that only one of those offices has a person who actually answers the phone. The office in Washington DC is evidently much busier than any other senator's office because NO ONE EVER answers the phone there.

Interesting that Gainer suggests closing "down state" offices, considering he is from Illinois where everything south of I-80 is considered "downstate." I am all for saving money, BUT, closing in-state offices would simply further divide members from their constituents. Is that what we really want? A Washington, D.C. even LESS a part of the people supposedly represented there?

While we are at it, their benefits should end as soon as they leave office. No retirement, no special medical coverage, nothing. Just send them home. Let them experience what they have done to this country.

The Democrat Nelson is scratching his head and moaning about trying to find 5% of the Senate's allowance to cut? Good grief. With brilliant minds like that this nation is finished. I could pick the first 100 names out of the phone book and I guarantee they would find 95% of these fools' allowance to cut, not 5%.

I think that would be great. We Americans shouldn't be the only ones giving up things and living on beans and potatoes trying to buy gas to drive back and forth to work....I don't think that I am the only one the feels this way. Just saying...
