We need representatives that are looking for common ground and willing to compromise. What we have now is a bunch on the left and right that only want to adhere to the hard core party line. This is why we have made little progress tackling the big problems facing us.

Open primaries will get rid of many of the "nutty" and "extremist" candidates. How refreshing it would be to choose between two good candidates rather than two party favorites in the general election.

All a Centrist is, is someone that is trying to be all things to all people for personal gain.

Leadership requires strong conviction and guiding values and morals, not finger in the air "which way is the wind blowing"

I would go one step further, I would like to see both parties establish a set of core values that they would then build their party platform on and any one claiming to be this (D) or that that (R) doesn't support the party core values is kindly ask to leave the party. Why should either of the national parties help the "centrist" undermine their party values, Democrat or Republican?

Plus of defined the American voter will know what they are voting for.
