OMB Director Says Social Security Will Be Fine
Tweet Share on Facebook February 28, 2011 Comment (7)Jacob Lew, director of the Office of Management and Budget, has a bit of advice to those who say the Social Security sky is falling: Calm down. “People who sit around saying bad things are going to happen,” says the self-described optimist, “tend to contribute to self-fulfilling prophecies.” A budget pro who has studied Social Security for three decades, Lew is not worried about running out of cash. “At the moment, we look out and we see it solidly funded until 2037, and we think it is important to make the commitment to current retirees and workers, who are future retirees, that the system will be sound,” he says. “There is no need to deal with Social Security.”

A Better Way to Hold a Presidential Election

Bush in the Electoral College? Or are you of a mind that the election system should be left alone because it could only get more confusing?

No News Is Good News In Afghanistan
Tweet Share on Facebook February 25, 2011 CommentWhere has all the news about the war in Afghanistan gone?
The lack of stories about the war in Afghanistan isn't just because other hot spots like Libya and Wisconsin are eating up the news space, say national security experts. They credit the possibility that the news is good and turning in favor of the United States and Karzai government. And that means less bad news to write about. New RNC Rules Mean a Longer GOP 2012 Presidential Race
Tweet Share on Facebook February 23, 2011 CommentThe 2012 Republican presidential nominee won’t be known as fast as John McCain was when he won more than the needed 1,191 Republican delegates in the March 4, 2008, primaries. Party officials tell Whispers that new rule changes will push back to mid- or late-April the first chance a candidate will have to garner enough delegates to declare victory. What happened? The Republican National Committee tweaked the election calendar to give the primary and caucus season a later start by a month and declared that none of the contests could be winner-takes-all until after March. As a result, say GOP officials, more candidates will stay in the race longer, giving voters in later election states a better shot at influencing who is finally chosen to run against President Obama.

New Book Calls Rush Limbaugh Lazy
Tweet Share on Facebook February 22, 2011 Comment (12)Rush haters have a new book to love: The Most Dangerous Man In America. In it, author John Wilson thinks he knows why Rush Limbaugh is so unbending on his views: Rush is a lazy daddy’s boy. Wilson says Rush didn’t challenge his dad’s conservative opinions and resisted schooling that would have offered different views. “Limbaugh’s refusal to question his father’s teachings might explain why he hated school so much. Limbaugh believes he learned everything he ever needed to know from his father, and what he was taught in school may have challenged some of those ideas,” pens Wilson, who mocks that Rush pronounces “schools” as “screwls.” Wilson’s no fan. His other books have praised President Obama and hit former Speaker Newt Gingrich.
