Tweet Share on Facebook December 9, 2010 Comment (6)Republicans aren't just satisfied with taking control of the House and scaring President Obama so much that he has caved into them on taxes. Now they have their eyes on taking charge of the U.S. Senate in the 2012 elections and have already printed wanted posters for their top 10 targets. [See a slide show of the GOP's hit list.]

Black Caucus Wasn’t Always Open to GOP Members
Tweet Share on Facebook December 9, 2010 Comment (3)When newly-elected Florida Republican Rep. Allen West joins the Congressional Black Caucus, there are likely to be some smiles and backslaps as the group welcomes a rare black Republican. But the caucus wasn’t always open to GOP views. Ron Christie writes in his new book, Acting White, that as a rookie black House staffer working for a Florida Republican congressman in 1991, he was ripped by Democrats. He reveals that Rep. Maxine Waters, currently facing ethics charges and a former caucus chairwoman, called him to her office after their first meeting to bark: “You are a sellout to your race! White people work for Republicans. Not African-Americans! You’re nothing but an Uncle Tom!”

GOP Could Face Voter Backlash
Tweet Share on Facebook December 8, 2010 Comment (3)The beefed-up GOP set to split power in Washington with President Obama in January could face a voter backlash if they fight President Obama too hard and continue their "party of no" approach to compromise, Democratic pollster Peter Hart tells us. "If the Republicans are recalcitrant and indifferent" to Obama's outreach, says Hart, "they will pay a price." His analysis was based on new polling and focus group work. Obama Desperate to Show Tax Support
Tweet Share on Facebook December 8, 2010 Comment (44)Starved of Democratic support on Capitol Hill for his tax compromise with Republican leaders, President Obama has been forced to cast a wide net over the country in hopes of snaring some help. His meager take so far: the mayor of Charlotte, N.C., Anthony Foxx, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas, and Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell. Al Qaeda Magazine Disses Obama
Tweet Share on Facebook December 8, 2010 Comment (1)Al Qaeda’s magazine—yes, they have an English version called Inspire—takes on President Obama and a CNN anchor in the latest issue. On a page of American press clippings, ominously decorated with a 9-mm Glock pistol, Obama is quoted talking about destroying the terrorists in Yemen. Inspire answers: “You want to destroy us? Reminds us of Pharoh’s threats to Prophet Moses, peace be upon him. In the end, it is the believers who will inherit the lands.” And answering a CNN anchor’s on-air query about the whereabouts of bomb-maker Ibrahim al Asiri, Inspire says he is “safe & well & he is currently busy teaching a new batch of students the latest in bomb making . . . .”

Terror Threats Pay—for the Good Guys
Tweet Share on Facebook December 7, 2010 Comment (3)The underwear bomber, who struck one year ago this month, brought about at least one good thing. The incident nixed a big budget cut at the National Counterterrorism Center. “A year ago, my organization was facing cutbacks in a way that, frankly, would have meant that we couldn’t have done some of the analysis and the watch-listing and that I think are critical pieces of that defensive counterterrorism puzzle,” says anti-terror boss Michael Leiter. But after Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab failed to detonate his bomb aboard a Detroit-bound flight, “that trend reversed to some extent and we now have the resources we need to address the current threat.” Leiter says it’s key to spend money right and to tell Congress “what capabilities will be lost without funding.” Still, he adds: “No matter how much we fund, we won’t eliminate all risk.”

Fred Barnes Wants Conservatives to Infiltrate Left Wing Media
Tweet Share on Facebook December 6, 2010 Comment (9)The right isn't satisfied with knocking Rep. Nancy Pelosi out of the House speaker's chair and telling President Obama that they're taking away his checkbook. Now some of the most prominent conservatives in the media are calling for parity with the mainstream press corps, the group that famously revealed they favored electing Bill Clinton 12-1 over former President George H.W. Bush in a 1996 survey.
