Clinton, New York's Top Razorback
Tweet Share on Facebook October 29, 2010 CommentHe may live in New York's tony suburbs and work in Harlem, but Bill Clinton still loves to yell "Wooo, Pig, Sooie!" The former Arkansas guv reveals that he remains a University of Arkansas Razorbacks addict—and not just for the basketball team, which he cheered in 1994 as president as it grabbed the NCAA championship. He has a cable TV sports package in New York that gives him Razorback football games. And, he says, "I TiVo the games I miss." That apparently makes him an armchair coach who feels the Razorbacks need to "learn to play better in the fourth quarter."

Nancy Pelosi's Leadership Post Is Safe
Tweet Share on Facebook October 28, 2010 Comment (14)Even if she loses the majority in the midterm congresional elections, rumors of a successful leadership challenge to Speaker Nancy Pelosi are being doubted. The reason: More moderates than liberals are likely to be ousted in the midterm elections and remaining left-leaning Democrats make up her base, say her associates.

Fox's Neil Cavuto Planning for a Long Election Night
Tweet Share on Facebook October 28, 2010 Comment (3)Like a lot of cable TV hosts, Fox Business Network's Neil Cavuto is planning an all-nighter on Election Day. Cavuto tells Whispers that he's advised staffers: "I would bring cots, if I were you, and enough Red Bull to keep you going to at least 2 in the morning." But Cavuto and his guests won't be looking just at the winners. His focus will be on what it means to Wall Street and American wallets. "Fox Business isn't about red and blue states, it's about green—your money," he says. Eight or more hours on the air could be a hardship for Cavuto, who has multiple sclerosis. He jokes that he's told his bosses that "I'm going to combine all my drugs with a lot of alcohol seconds before going on the air." Jokes aside, he says that "it's all a matter of adrenaline, though I certainly feel it the next day."

Coburn Plans Federal Hiring and Wage Freeze
Tweet Share on Facebook October 26, 2010 Comment (41)The hatred of Washington isn't confined to members of the House and Senate and President Obama and his top staff. Polls find that a majority of the public also isn't appreciative of the performance and pay of the federal workforce. After the elections, look for Republicans to jump on that mood. Leading the fight will be Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn. The Republican doesn't think badly of federal workers; he just thinks there are too many. So he's readying legislation to freeze hiring and wages. "The fact is the federal workforce has expanded while the private job market has contracted," says a spokesman. "The long-term job market would be a lot healthier with a smaller federal government and tax burden. People like Steve Jobs, not [Homeland Secretary] Janet Napolitano, are going to drive the recovery."

GOP's 2012 Strategy Against Obama
Tweet Share on Facebook October 25, 2010 Comment (5)Approaching the 2012 presidential election, Republican Party insiders are increasingly stuck on the biggest hurdle they face when strategizing against President Obama. The debate: What kind of presidential candidate should the GOP nominate? Granted that conservatives and not moderates will rule the primaries and caucuses, practically guaranteeing one of their own will win. But does passion trump job experience? Should they stick with their old winning hand of picking a governor? Maybe a senator or House member? Is it finally time for a businessman, à la Ross Perot or Steve Forbes?
