Pollster John Zogby updates our weekly Obama Report Card with a grade on the president's performance. Zogby uses his polling, expert analysis, and interaction with major players to come up with a grade and some comments that capture how he sees the president's week ending.

National pollster John Zogby gives President Obama a grade of C minus for week 86 of his presidency.

John Zogby on Week 86:

Pre-election polling is showing no improvement for the Democrats or the president, and the probability of big losses is being talked about now as a certainty. President Obama is trying to draw distinctions with Republicans by proposing a $50 billion public works plan, capital investment write-offs for business and holding firm on ending the Bush tax cuts for the rich. Obama wants to gin up support from the liberal base, who may be all that can save Democrats from disaster in November's midterm. The far right continues to be the Democrats' best get-out-the-vote mechanism. The latest example is the Florida church that threatened to burn the Koran on 9-11 and put U.S. troops in Afghanistan in danger of reprisals.

This week's grade: C-

Last week's: C+

So TheRightView writes, "We want our industry back, our oil production back and we want our values back. We are sick of being dependent on foreign trade and not seeing Made in America on our goods. We are sick and tired of the degenerate and bizzarre trash in our entertainment world."

Then you shouldn't vote for "conservatives" (Republicans or DLC Democrats). Why?

That "foreign trade" and "not seeing Made in America on our goods" is exactly what virtually all Republicans want. They want petal to the metal on "free trade" that's resulted in a cumulative trade deficit (trade debt) of $5.8 trillion from 2000 through May 2010; that's how much GDP has been reduced. Republicans oppose "Made in America". It's true that "conservative" DLC Democrats support the same thing, but many other Democrats do not. Get rid of "conservatives" or we'll not see a change. Google "Jobs & 'Trade' Data Update Jun10" to see the damage.

As far as "our oil production", there's not enough oil in the U.S. to make much of a difference (except the difference when oil rigs produce oil volcanoes). Once the multinational oil corporations have those leases, it's *their" oil, not ours and they export it. Google "Petroleum Prevarication" to see that U.S. petroleum exports are over 10% of imports.

And you don't want "the degenerate and bizzarre trash in our entertainment world"? Well, that's the "free market" hand-of-God in action that "conservatives" worship. It's giving people what they want.

"Conservatives" seem have no idea that they're supporting those that deliver exactly the opposite of what they want. Pathetic.

I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue! ........ It was true in 1963 and still true today.

1) I don't listen to anybody who tells me what America or Americans want. I'm an American, and I know what I want. And we are so diverse, there's almost no one thing that all Americans want. Further, the comment is always, always, always followed by an assertion that Americans want what the commenter wants. Always. So who cares?

2) Why would you discriminate against moderates? They are the center point of balance, the fulcrum. We'd be off the deep end, one direction or the other, without them, even though I usually am not one.

P.S. I try not to discriminate against conservatives, either. But collectively, or maybe I should say "loudly," the Right has become so far away from even a vague resemblance to truth that I'm afraid I have to discriminate. Too bad. Even so, I like most of the ideas suggested above.
