Gulf Zogby: Oil Spill Hurts Obama

May 28, 2010 RSS Feed Print

Pollster John Zogby updates our weekly Obama Report Card with a grade on the president's performance. Zogby uses his polling, expert analysis, and interaction with major players to come up with a grade and some comments that capture how he see's the president's week ending.

John Zogby on Week 71:

National pollster John Zogby gives President Obama a grade of C for week 71 of his presidency.

"Headlines about the BP oil spill may be staining the president. Telling his people to 'Plug the damn hole. Just get it done,' won't make it happen. Obama is caught between looking disengaged or assuming control of a disaster he may have no ability to resolve. Below the fold are other unwanted and intransigent issues. What action should we take against North Korea? Is there any way out of a worsening Afghanistan military operation? How much will uber jitters about the Euro upset both the U.S. and global economies? Why has it been so difficult to keep a campaign promise to end 'don't ask, don't tell?'. The course gets harder, and the president's grade falls to a C."

This week's grade: C

Last week's: B

The problem with President Obama and many of our political leaders is a lack of real leadership. Real leadership requires risk and decision making, but our current leaders are afraid of hurting the feelings of some interest group and thus are unable to make clear decisions. We now have a permanent political class that almost mirrors an aristocracy, which is tied to group think and indecisiveness. This is why the Israeli storming of a the protest ship is attacked so heavily by our political class. It may have not been the best decision and it could have been handled better, but Israel made a call and they were decisive for their own interests; our Political class is unable to fathom this or is fearful of such decisive action. Our nation is lacking in political leadership and I feel most sorry for the members of our armed forces who are jerked around by such poor decision making.

I agree with Mary. Obama himself is disengaged in important matters; but when he can be the

big show" he likes to be seen. Huge ego but puts himself first (golf games, etc) before addressing the important things. My biggest concern with BHO is the type people he has surrounding himself, from Marxist to Faschists! One of his minions this week warned tha we should never refer to Islamist Jihadists or jihadists because that is a tenet of the Muslim faith. If, indeed, radiacal jihadism is a tenet of the faith, then they may not belong in the USA! As long as we have radical Islamist Jihadists attempting to bomb USA sites, and killing people, they will be called exactly what they are. While they are reforming immigration laws, perhaps it could be addressed that Islamist jihadists are not welcome or allowed in the USA.

Obama and the Chicago bunch did not have a clue as to what to do ?? Like most of what the Chicago bunch has tryed to do has been WAY over their heads !!
