By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers

It was an all-Democratic affair when Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, went to recently deceased Rep. John Murtha's hometown of Johnstown, Pa., last month to announce that a new warship would be named after the ex-Marine. But that's been met with protests from critics of Murtha's pork-barrel politics and his opposition to the war in Iraq. Now a new congressional report says Congress can challenge the Navy secretary's naming, though so far nobody's stood up to rename the USS John P. Murtha.

I oppose this naming in honor of Murtha!

My main reason is his accusing those Marines of military offfenses .. when in fact they were exonerated later ... and Murtha never apologized to them.

John Murtha was in fact, a member of the armed forces. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Confirmation from Fox News, of all places:

And I love this whole idea that you're not sufficiently pro-military unless you enthusiastically support every war America has ever declared. Way to get people to check their brains at the door for a mindless flag-waving party.

It's hard to stand up for something when you have no backbone.

Why not name it after the most decorated soldier in US history.
