Americans have come up with the perfect Mother's Day present President Obama can give his wife Michelle: Stop smoking. A smoker for some 30 years who's under his doctor's orders to give up the dirty habit, he now faces the pressure of a large majority of Americans who want him to quit. [See photos of Michelle Obama.]

In the latest Washington Whispers poll, 60 percent said the best deed he could do on Mother's Day would be to throw his cigarettes away. And according to our pollster, Synovate e-Nation, the numbers were even higher among women, Americans 55 and over, and middle-income workers.

The response blew away the other choices like taking the first lady shopping (15 percent,) picking up after first dog Bo (9 percent), weeding her garden, (9 percent), and taking Michelle golfing, (7 percent).

The Whispers Poll

With Mother's Day around the corner, it's time for President Obama to come up with a good deed he can do for first lady Michelle Obama. Which of the following fits the bill?

Stop Smoking: 60 percent

Take her shopping: 15 percent

Pick up after first dog Bo: 9 percent

Regularly weed their garden: 9 percent

Finally take her golfing: 7 percent.

Source: The Synovate eNation Internet poll was conducted April 28-30 among 1,000 nationally representative households by global market research firm Synovate.

JONAY....from where else - NY.....pay attention to what has really happened and how this guy that you seem to know so well and how much he loves his wife,bla...bla...bla, has taken away your freedoms and is after all of them. It's been very insidious and must have slipped right by you.

Someone wrote "Yes, smoking is bad for you, but so with many other things... "

That's kind of like saying "Yes Hitler was a nasty guy, but so are a lot of people."
