GOP to Launch 'Commitment to America' for 2010 Election

Giddy Republicans might think they can take back the House and threaten the Democratic majority in the Senate this fall with the simple slogan of not being Democrats. But wiser party heads have another idea. Give voters a reason to vote for Republicans, not just against Democrats.

Whispers has learned that the GOP is soliciting ideas from candidates, business people, and voters from around the country for what it is calling a "Commitment to America." Those involved emphasize that it's not a warmed-over version of the 1994 "Contract With America," but the idea is the same: spell out how the GOP would do things differently if put in charge.

California Rep. Kevin McCarthy, a chatty ally of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger who started a Bakersfield deli with $5,000 in lottery winnings, is running the project. As the head of candidate recruitment for the party, McCarthy has heard hundreds of ideas on fixing Washington, so he says it makes sense to collect the best and draft a fall midterm elections agenda for candidates to follow and voters to judge candidates against.

One big difference from 1994 is that more ideas will come from outside the beltway via YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. "I view it as a commitment to America, exactly from Americans, on how to change Washington," says McCarthy. "Get away from the idea of 'Contract 2,' because I never believe a sequel does as well as the first," he says. "Well, maybe the Godfather Part II did."

While the commitment will include elements of GOP plans already presented on issues like healthcare and jobs, it's also going to get very detailed. Some suggestions McCarthy likes are a 20 percent small-business tax cut for job creation and slashing the highly paid part of the workforce at the Department of Education and giving those salaries directly to schools.

They will fail because of this "a chatty ally of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger". He's all but destroyed California and you want a friend of his to find answers for you?

The only way to have prosperity in America is for our politicians to be reminded that they have a constitution to abide by. For the past 150 years (yes dating back to Lincoln) our presidents and congressmen/women have violating the words of the constitution whether by Subsidies (violation of Article 1, Section 8), going to war with countries that do not attack us and are little harm to us, Welfare programs that utilize taxpayer money (people that dont need the program) and giving it to others, trying to run health care, when it is, in fact, a state issue, not a federal issue...the list goes on.

The federal governments only 2 jobs are to protect our rights (the ones in the constition...not priveledges) and to protect the people from foreign invasion. That's it...unfortunately, they have become our mother and father and it needs to stop. Vote Ron Paul...beg for Michael Bednarick to run again and vote for him...Look for the candidate that always makes his professional decisions based on the constitution.

well a day late & a dollar short . . . but I'd much rather give a street panhandler the encouragement & means to help himself - than to keep enabling his addictions & feeding his habits

in case no one has noticed yet -- because everyone is far too busy pointing fingers & "collectively" patting their own backs, while demonizng the opposition . . . AMERICA has already hit the iceberg & is going down like the TITANIC - and we all know how that turned out

so let's all just keep on squabbling amongst ourselves -- yeah like that solves problems

or we could recognize that there will always be strong differences of opinions -- and figure out a way to at least make a somewhat concerted effort to start rowing the life boats together fwiw

REFOCUS ON EDUCATION & "SUPPORT SYSTEMS" {60% graduation rates = no HS diplomas = no jobs = drugs = crime = ever soaring costs to society . . . AND continuing to simply throw money at the symptoms & ultimate manifestations - will not solve the underlying causes}

The AmeriCorps Pledge:

I will get things done for America - to make our people safer, smarter, and healthier.

I will bring Americans together to strengthen our communities.

Faced with apathy, I will take action.

Faced with conflict, I will seek common ground.

Faced with adversity, I will persevere.

I will carry this commitment with me this year and beyond.

I am an AmeriCorps member, and I will get things done.

. . . otherwise y'all can go back to proclaiming that "the other party/NEITHER PARTY" is interested in any ideas other than their own -- while AMERICA continues to sink

It's nothing but "stop Obama". That's all they can possibly do, even if they retook both houses of Congress in 2010. You think he is going to sign their bills? Not a chance. You think 3 more years of the party of "no" is going to elect somebody like Palin?

Not a chance of that either.
