'Washington Times' Moving out of Headquarters

As I write this comment, it's May 9 and the Washington Times has been put up for sale.

Any talk about the paper moving out of its New York Avenue headquarters was pure speculation, it turns out. The paper's circulation has plunged dramatically since it eliminated its Metro and Sports sections last December. It's now down to 42,000, with only 25,000 home subscribers, according to a recent Washington Post article.

It's pretty clear that the Times is doomed to fold -- the only question is when it will finally go belly-up.

The real irony is that while the Washington Times -- which in the past year has gone on a vicious editorial campaign against gays, including a stereotype-filled denunciation of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act now pending in Congress -- is on the brink of folding, the capital's LGBT newspaper, The Washington Blade, has made a triumphant return, five months after its former parent company, Window Media, went bankrupt and closed the venerable 40-year-old weekly.

Poetic justice, as far as I'm concerned.

In Jin Moon. Just how in the world can a died in the wool liberal fit into a radically conservative church. Well it sure didn't work for me. If In Jin Moon heads up the Times and changes it's direction I say "Right on Sister." I will never get re-involved with the Moonie element but I just might start reading the Washington Times. I want to read her editorials.

Steve, from what I have seen, In Jin is like her father and into whatever gains influence or the appearance of it. She didn't "give" a fundraiser for Obama. She got a person who was a friend of hers who happened to be the one to decide where a fundraiser was to be, to hold the event at the Manhattan Center which she runs as a business and in this case, hook. She used that as a way to meet Obama and I am sure get some of those Moon org all important photographs they love to use to show off their connections.

It was about getting another politician in the bag. She's like her old man. She admitted she asked her friend - as a favor to her - to have the event at her place of business.

Her young members asked her why she was OK with Obama. As you know, they were raised to support rabid right wing homophobes and theocrats. She replied they needed to take from both sides. BS That is news to what her father spent every drop of his swindled cash to support for 50 years. He hates liberals, unions and gays. He'd fund any right wing fascist torturing dictator he could find, then fund communist North Korea when it suited his quest for influence.

The Moon kids are making changes. They now use Bible passages in their services in case a member might have brought a "christian" guest. They believe Jesus was a failure who now serves Moon's dead son in the afterlife, but in case they might be able to grab some "christian" they toss in some verses.

Something not mentioned is that Rev. Moon's daughter, In Jin Moon, is very liberal. She gave a fundraiser for Obamba in 2008. She is now the leader of the church in the USA and is not a fan of the Times. It may well shut down altogether.

A zeloted right wing rag! Good riddance! Tony Blankley must be looking for a new gig, he had face lift or something, didn't help! Still a scum reporter and a blow hard to beat.

What's wrong with religious people being politically active? People of faith should be influencing national and world politics. I enjoyed WT editorials.

Fold this so called "newspaper" now, and make the world a better place.

Is there any way you could elaborate on your memories at the storied conservative rag known as The Washington Times?? Enquiring Minds would like to know.

CraftyCritter of DC 1:32AM January 07, 2010

The Washington Times has never made money, Rev Moon has boasted about how much he has sunk into it, which might be up to 3 billion dollars. It's his main claim to relevance and boost to his ego. He claims that he has been influencing America and the world through the newspaper. A point which helps with fundraising in Japan and Korea.

There is a cash crunch everywhere due to the economy, but Rev Moon has a lot of real estate he has collected over the years. Apparently he still wants to keep the paper going.

His son Hyun Jim Moon, also known as Preston, after getting his Harvard MBA took over the Unification Movements businesses. He is known as Mr Bottom Line and never hesitated to cut costs, reorganize and remove old-time Unificationists.

What is known is that Rev Moon has tried to replace Preston as head of Washington Times with a younger son, but Preston isn't leaving and it's been announced that he is not following Rev Moon.

It seems that Preston is looking to preserve his inheritance, by cutting the losses. Maybe he believes he is doing Gods will by taking the paper online, but his decisions are usually all about the money.

Ironically in the Unification Movement he is called a 'True Child' of the 'True Parents' Rev and Mrs Moon.

It appears to be that you better trust your kids before you sign the documents. Whether they are 'True Children' or not.
