The Heller bill has an ignored surprise in it: @ 53/56? pg on PDF, is Definition of "Arms"

Relevant section begins" Then, as now..." This neatly brings 2nd amendment definition of +arms" covered into conformity with the UN Convention on light weapons, which bans civilian ownership of any Military arms, of any age, manufactured for military use, copies of, or DESIGNS DERIVED FROM any military firearm. Obama's Global Poverty bill, co-sponsored by Snowe of Maine, contains proposed passage of the UN Treaty.

So far, NRA, GOA, JPOF, have totally ignored this oncoming train.

Crossbows. anyone?

This rumor is a recycled rumor. That does not mean that we do not have to watch the politicians like a hawk. One commentor implied that the NRA and Wayne LaPierre are greatly overstating the threat to gun owners and the 2nd Amendment. How about this. NJ passes law limiting gun purchases to one per month. Then they discovered that dealers and distributers would also be limited to one per month. California outlaws all internet and mail order sales of ammunition and wanted to require a background check on everyone that intered a gun store. Kind of silly. Chicago and some other places have virtually made it impossible for self defense even though the courts have ruled that the police are not obligated to protect any individual, only the public as a whole. Just recently a DC off duty detective draws a gun and threatens a crowd throwing snowballs. Sen Lautenberg of NJ wants a bill passed allowing the US AG to be able to deny people their constitutional rights by prohibiting a SUSPECT on the terror watchlist the right to own or buy a gun, just on suspicion with no investigation, no conviction, no charges filed, all done in secret. No threat to the 2nd Amendment you say? The US Government found all kinds of problems with the terrorist watchlist saying it was full of mistakes, inaccuracies, outdated material and people wrongfully identified. Sen Lautenberg in his bill also wants to allow the US AG to pretty much make up his own rules and decide himself what is suspicious. Talk about the potential for political misuse. That would make Richard Nixon's enemies list seem like sunday school chit chat.

It is true that the rumor is like a grass fire, each are hard to put out after they get started. The guns are apart of our history and I think everyone should have them and be trained in how to ues them. My thoughts are if everyone had one on the porch and in the car the crime would drop off 80%. Check the states that allow it.

these are just a little premature unless the Supreme Court rules against the government in the current session

December 7, I received in the mail another letter soliciting my membership from NRA's Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. Here are a few excerpts:

". . .unless you act now, your Second Amendment

rights are certain to be dismantled and destroyed.

. . .your firearm freedoms and your hunting and

shooting traditions are under attack like never

before. Right now, hundreds of anti-gun politicians

in the U.S. Congress and the 50 state legislatures

are casting the votes, passing the laws and writing

the regulations that will decide the fate of your

right to own a firearm. . . . Gun ban politicians

. . . stand ready to fight for a far-reaching agenda

that will BAN hundreds of popular rifles, pistols

and shotguns, LIMIT the number of guns you can own,

RATIFY a U.N. global gun ban treaty, BANKRUPT

America's gun makers, and CLOSE our gun shops and

shows. . . ."

Now, that letter, which goes on and on, is a far cry from what is in the letter from NRA lobbyist Cox included in the blog article I'm commenting on. What gives? Does the right hand not know what the left is doing in NRA circles? Is LaPierre's letter out-and-out propaganda designed to spread fear?

Needless to say, I think we all know the answers. And I think we all know there are far too many deaths by shooting in the U.S., far too much U.S. involvement in the supplying of arms to drug traffikers in Mexico, and so on. Too many people who should not have guns have them and don't hesitate to misuse them, as in the Fort Hood massacre, and other almost daily episodes.

There's a disconnect in the U.S. between the rights of some to own firearms and the right of all not to be shot dead by those who misuse guns.

Here again we have a massive problem Congress has failed to touch. Like the immigration issue, an IRS code so complicated that we're forced to pay to have our taxes prepared, and many other issues, the guns rampant problem just goes on and on, a problem unresolved. The solution suggested by some, everyone armed and ready to fire away when "necessary," might appeal to those who have suggested it. It does not appeal to me.

Back to Cox and LaPierre. Who does speak for the NRA? And who is willing to step up and speak for the rest of us?

How frutstrating it is that people would rather believe the rumor mill, even when someone like yourself with accurate information and firsthand knowledge is able to demyth these insane beliefs. The comment that Obama WOULD do this if he could - and the comment that equates your organization with "GovGoon" controlled media are perfect examples of truth being crazier than fiction. Sound bytes are unfortunately the much-desired source of information and, I am seeing more and more, it is easier to believe conspiracy theories and radical lies than it is to seek the truth.

Such a bill may be rumor now, but if Obama and his henchmen can pass such a bill, I'm sure they would.

ted of AZ 2:04PM December 21, 2009

It would be great if the rumors were true!

mfromDC of DC 1:50PM December 21, 2009
