to begin with, don't get unionized.

The fact of the matter is that employees don't like paying dues and they don't like having outsiders meddling in local affairs.

What they do like is working for owners who take time to know workers personally, treat them with respect, give all they can give, and explain clearly the realities of the business so that everyone understands that there are practical limits to what CAN be given.

On-site owners are better at this. I know.

I watched this done right from the inside as accountant for a private company for over 20 years. A national-name union was certified for only 18 months. The employees then de-certified it and hundreds of people lived happily and unionless for decades with good owners who had LEARNED from the experience. Card check or the lack thereof was not the "key".
