Imagine seeing your congressman or senator flipping burgers at McDonald's or selling T-shirts at the Gap. Well, according to our latest Synovate eNation poll, Americans think a summer job would help lawmakers keep in touch with how the rest of us live.

The Whispers Poll

President Obama had a taste of the real life working as an ice cream scooper as a teenager. Which summer job would keep your member of Congress more in touch with voters?

Flipping burgers 45%
Mowing lawns 31%
Selling T-shirts at the mall 16%
Life guarding at the pool 8%

Source: The Synovate eNation Internet poll was conducted May 28-June 1 among 1,000 nationally representative households by global market research firm Synovate.

I like the idea but it would not work.... Obama is certainly not in touch with the American people. Selling ice cream did not help him and flipping burgers will not help Congress. Only term limits and an initial audit upon entering Congress and an exit audit upon leaving Congress, with any increase above CPI being refunded to the country or given to an charity that existed prior to their election. These measures may help but not much. Any income (book deals, speaking engagements, etc.) after leaving office above a certain level would result in a complete loss of benefits and compensation from the government for those members of Congress or the President. Let them live under the laws that are required of the rest of us and maybe we would see a little restraint on their part. If we are going to have a "pay czar", let it begin with "our leaders".

I would like to offer this idea that would be a step in the right direction.Rather than living in a Prentetious Box in Maryland or Virginia ,move into a Dorm with other members of our Growing Goverment.Take turns cooking , doing your own laundry etc.No recreational drugs or hookers though.Families can visit on weekends with prior notification & the successful application for permit. The same for press conferances. No distractions,No waste of our taxes on trivialities ,just the People's business for a start.
