Whispers Poll: Americans Want to Visit Cuba

Why not travel to Cuba? It is close and would be an excellent weekend trip. I am looking forward to the US removing the travel restrictions.

Surely mant Americans would visit Cuba if legally allowed to do so. The climate, friendly locals, rum, and cigars would be irrestible to many tourists. If the U.S. government were to suddenly say Cuba was open to all American tourists the Cuban government would act swiftly - to close their country to U.S. tourists! Cuban officials do not want American tourists and prosperous second-generation cuban-americans flooding into their country and showing the Cuban people what a lousy job the Castro regime has done in running their country. Face it, with all its natural resources and climate Cuba should be a prosperous, jewel-like country. Not some third world, back-water ghetto.

I want to visit Cuba as a possible place to retire. I understand the people are very friendly, the beaches are gorgeous, violent crime is virtually non-existant, medical care is excellent and one can actually live decently on social security. It all sounds great to me.

Such a claim implies that if one is an American, he/she wants to visit Cuba.

I'm an American and I don't want to visit Cuba.

That makes it almost impossible to believe anything elso this author says.

I can readily believe that Americans that want to restore 1940's vintage automobiles would love to vist Cuba to obtain some of them.

Americans with family ties to Cuba would naturally want to visit Cuba.

Tourists that once enjoyed the attention showed them visiting Cuba would like to vacation there again.

But just because one is an American does not automatically make him/her want to visit Cuba.
