After Specter, 3 More GOP Defections?

A huge problem with Washington and politics in general is that "need to get re-elected". Obviously too many in Washington and certainly the Mainstream Media are still "high" on the Obama Kool-aid. Go with what the polls say is popular.

The Democratic wave of new voters and the sweeping Obama/Pelosi/Reid transformation of America has had one positive effect. People (the voters} are becoming educated and paying attention to what's going on in Washington. They are noticing that the MSM is not giving them a "balanced" story cause they're too busy drooling over their latest heart-throb.

That used car Salesman talked a good story but when you find the sawdust in the Transmission, you know when you've been had.

THIS WILL be the downfall of this current Administration.

A few GOP turncoats may be surprised when America tosses them out on the streets.

Obama = Carter x TEN TRILLION

Republicans are blaming everyone, but themselves. Part of the problem is that representatives (and some argue the leader of their ideology) like Rush Limbaugh think that they're the sharpest knife in the drawer. No one else opinion matters because they have spoken and there can be no descent. All who do so must be checked for patriotism, loyalty and socialist affiliations.

That's the deceitfulness of arrogance; they don't realize they're under its spell. It convinces you that no one matters but you and your agendas. It's boring and tired. Their arrogance is revealed in the fact that they're actually surprised and upset that someone would want to leave their party, as if the issues within their party are insignificant. When they set them selves up as the "white" political party, they do themselves a disservice.

When you watch their national conventions and see nothing but rednecks and hear nothing but country and western music being played, it tells you the people that they are catering to. There's no diversity to their ideas or party; no inclusiveness. Its rednecks, apple pie and Chevrolet. Unfortunately, for them, the country is made up of far more than cowboys. That's what makes us unique. There's a whole spectrum of people of every hue and color; every language and ethnicity and every religion that are American citizens. They speak with accents; they honor and respect the traditions of their ancestors just like the Irish and Italians and Jews do they and love this country. They may eat different foods, but they're no less Americans.

Republicans don't get this. When some Arabs attacked us, they saw all Arabs as the same. To our shame, this country responded in the same way with Japanese Americans after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Would they suspect and lock up all whites if we went to war with Europe? To them the only thing that's important is being able to have more money than God and no one especially the government tells them what to do. That's why armed militias are easy produced from their group. They're angry, exclusive and racist. Anyone who doesn't want things back to "the way they were is a threat. The problem is that when things were "the way they were" many of the people of color in this nation were discriminated against and even today, with all the so-called changes made, we here of hate crimes and discrimination. So, no one cares that this fringe group of angry, predominately white secessionist known as the GOP, feels that something's wrong with anyone who would leave a party that's running full speed ahead towards becoming extinct. They have to trivialize and demonize the Arlen Spectors and John McCains of their party because they expose their extreme partisanship. The republicans would rather President Obama fail and the country go under than assist him in getting the country back on its feet first and then play political games. That "Country First" garbage was exposed when they became the party of NO!

Both parties are corrupt. The Modern Whig Party seems to me a good option.

I am a life-long Republican, who no longer has a Party. I think the Democratic Party philosophy is far from my own, buth the Republicans are owned by single-issue segments that I cannot support. I am feeling very sad about my country and any voice I have in it.

I am a 45 yr. old life-long, registered republican who (How Dare I say this?) votes for the person who is more qualified regardless of the party they belong to. OMG! I guess I would FAIL Big time if I had to vote according to the GOP's new guiding principles. I thought I was at my thresh-hold for all of the (WTF?) stupid comments made by the GOP but they keep amazing me. I now believe I too will be making a party switch very soon. The leaders of this party will NEVER understand that, we the people, don't give a crap which party solves the many problems we face as a country, as long as they show positive results. The GOP leaders(?) have just insulted my intellegence for the very last time. I

Specter had no qualms previously breaking from his party on certain issues. This switch over to the democratic party shouldn't change anything. I'm not alone in thinking this; http://www.newsy.com/videos/specter_haunts_gop/ has clips from various news sources and their opinions on the matter.

I'm with Larry (below) on this one. The Republicans need to literally kick the non-believers in social conservatism right out of the party. Badmouth 'em at every turn.

THEN, the Dems will add to the majority they already have---a goal I'd like.

As for John McCain switching sides? No.

Collins or Snow? I'd bet on only one of the two.

Muser of NM 5:10PM April 29, 2009

First off let any "Republican" that votes against the core Republican issue leave. So what if they have a super majority. There will be no one to blame but the Democrates.

Second of all the Republicans need to begin a policy of kicking "non-conservative" and "Republican in name" people out of the party. They do nothing but hurt the party anyway.

M. Steele needs to present a written "Guiding Principles for Republicans" to the American people and anyone that does not agree and support those principles should leave the party.

The let the voters decide if they support those prinicples.

Larry of CA 5:00PM April 29, 2009

What is it going to take for Rush and his crowd to understand that they are leading the Republicans into permanent minority party status? When moderates like Senator Specter leave the Republican Party, they take with them moderate voters without whom Republicans cannot win elections. Like it or not, accept it or not, the Republican base can determine who may win a Republican Primary, but the base of the party cannot win a general election without moderate Republicans and Indipendents. If you have any doubts about this, please check the results of the last two election cycles.
