I like Palin, but I don't think either she nor Romney are viable candidates. I am not Barbour's biggest fan, but he has given us a tough love fiscal balance that has helped our state when others are failing.

After just hearing this guy speak on cnn about the oil spill I can't believe that this is the same guy that you all are speaking of in the previous comments. He just said that this is not a catastrophe. "Come enjoy our beaches, play, golf, pay a little sales tax. Also that it is not poisonous or a danger to anyone. Why doesn't he just go swimming in it. I can't even say what I really think cause it would not be appropriate but this guy will never run for president on this planet.

He's the Republicans best chance. just saw him on CNN and now I'm confused as to why the Republicans are so big on Palin and Romney. This guy seems like an all around stand up guy. I'm a Dem and I'm black and I like this guy so far. First guy I've heard speak from the party that I didn't think was crazy! Maybe he doesn't want to run? But Palin? Come on give me a break!

You are a Mississippian and you don't want Barbour for president?? I don't get it! Have you not seen firsthand how his leadership and quick thinking restored and revived this devastated region after the unthinkable storm wiped out a majority of our state? I didn't agree with his recovery prioritization in the beginning, but in hindsight I realized that he knew exactly in what order things should be done. His actions were selfless and he was committed whole-heartedly to the citizens of MS. He made sure the money was channeled to the people who needed it and didn't let politics get in the way, unlike our neighbors. We need a no BS kind-of-guy to get this horrible mess cleaned up! The way I see it, ANYTHING is better than the current wasteful, excessive spending, lying, socialistic, bullying administration we currently have and if we are fortunate enough to have a morally sound person like Barbour in office, we should thank our lucky stars! At least he has confidence in Americans in that we can wipe our own butts to some degree. He demonstrated that with Katrina; he gave us a means to recover and because we are intelligent enough to recognize what we had to do, we banded together using those means, pulled up our britches and put Mississippi back together. We don’t need the government telling us how to do every little thing in our lives. If we’re led to water, we’ll drink if we’re thirsty, we don’t need to be force fed. Maybe I’m somewhat of a traditionalist but as corrupt as this country has become, some decent moral guidelines can only help steer future generations in the right direction. Barbour is a great candidate to provide this to America! He has “been there and done that” and knows how the political system works, this would give him an advantage in the White House. Add it all together and you have an excellent candidate! My best wishes to him!

Concerned Mississippian, you will be in the minority in your views. Gov. Barbour was an excellent leader in the wake of Katrina. And did you forget the Nisson plant, along with our balanced budget, and fully funded "rainy day" fund? And he did approve a tax increase on cigarettes last year. Gov. Barbour is willing to make the touch choices that go along with fiscal responsibility. He will be a very appealing candidate for millions of Americans who are sick of Washington's spend, spend, spend....regardless of the consequences.

Gov. Barbour is the best thing to happen to mississippi and whould be the best man to run the country. If obama is reelected into office (whom cheated this time) the country will go to hell in a handbasket if not before the dumbass's term is up.

concerned MISSISSIPPIAN of MS 10:00AM January 11, 2010

As a Mississippian, I strongly fear for our country if Haley Barbour were elected president. He is far from a shining example of strong leadership and has wholly failed to improve Mississippi's economic status. He is, and always has been, interested only in the special interest groups that are financially beneficial to him. He refused for years to approve an increase in the tobacco tax (even though MS had the lowest in the country) in order to help his old pals in the tobacco industry. Barbour is a lobbyist at heart and will always prefer the dollar bill to the American people. Family and ethics? What a joke!
