The MPAA and the rest of Hollywood should be flattered that anyone wants to download their movies. They haven't exactly been creating masterpieces lately.

If DRM becomes illegal, total investment in original content will fall significantly. If price controls are imposed, it will collapse. It takes about five minutes of thoughts and a basic understanding of accounting and economics to recognize this. The current funding environment will only have increased the sensitivity of content investment to rewvenue uncertainty.

I am not saying that we should noy ban DRM. But if we do, we need to understand that the media available to us will not resemble the choice we have today... not even close. Consumers of "long-tail" content will suffer most (including me :-( ).
