I agree with the last commentator. But the people who dispute global warming make me sick. Even if you don't believe it exists (?????), there are so many other reasons to stop using fossil fuels, many of which are in the above commentary. The other thing, not mentioned above, is that the air we breathe is full of the harmful effects of fossil fuels. That can't be good, and it isn't! Even if you poo-poo the studies that show that people who live in high-trafficked areas are subject to more lung problems than others, just think about it rationally and come to a rational conclusion. It can't be good!!!!

BTW, I also have a car that is good on mileage but burns oil, and I don't think that that car would be qualify for this program. Duh!!!!! Makes no sense.

what do they consider a clunker???

If this bill will apply to any old registered / driveable car, regardless of it’s fuel mileage, I’m for it… I have a ‘98 Chevy Prizm, that while it gets 25+ miles to the gallon, it burns oil, as I’m sure a lot of older cars do. While it’s not to the “mosquito fogger” stage, it’s still adding to air pollution and increased use of foreign oil. I would love to trade for a new hybrid, even though most of my driving is on the highway. Even better.. the Chevy VOLT.. just too expensive w/o some stimulus $$$$. Let's make this more of an incentive to help the auto makers to help themselves... by spurring SALES, not just an enviromental issue. Let the taxpayer decide who gets their $$$ and for something tangible.. something you can look at in the driveway and be proud of, not just throwing your money in a sink hole of debt.

I'm not interested in the UAW getting taxpayer subsidies so the membership can keep their jobs. Just look at public transit. Legislation in the 1960's to save public transit resulted in a heck of a deal for the unions and a bad, bad deal for taxpayers.

Im tired of taking a beating from the unions, I belong to three of them by the way, and from the poloticians, Im tired of getting screwed, and being thought of as an idiot. Im taking the best care of me, and screw he rest, screw the illegals, screw the poloticians, and screw the unions! My time in the barrel is done! Somebody else get their ass in there! Im pulling out of my unions that back idiots, selling my home and moving to the mountains, BF Egypt sounds much better than city life anymore! By the way take Ca and pack it too!

Yeah be all selfish and let's screw everyone, why not? We all will be dead soone enough!

Let's drive a big truck because it represents the balls you do not have.

Let the free market take over as long as we gat a piece of it. Who cares of the morraly bankrupt philosophy behind it.

As to the insentive? Why not? after all it is all from the tax payers who cannot afford to buy a new car.

Nothing has changed, the argument is still the same: ME! ME! ME!

Car companies? ME! ME! ME!

As someone who thinks that this economic "crisis" (I call it a correction), is a good thing for weak, spoiled americans, I think this silly effort is ludicrous. Trying to get people who are being fiscally responsible and living within their means to go in debt for the benefit of the auto industry is unforgiveable and desperate. Don't do it folks, make the industry come to you with a superior product at a reasonable price. Smoke and mirror BS does not help you and only allows the industry to continue the same 'ol, same 'ol.

Obama's green movement is nothing more than a power grab. Globull warming is a farce designed to get government to control everyone's life. I drive a 3/4 ton pickup with a V10 engine and I am proud of it. I will not be trading it in for a clown car anytime soon, and I hope that other Americans don't either. Let's all stick it to the man.

Nathan of MI 4:33PM April 05, 2009

Maybe this is the death of the UAW who for far too long has strangled the auto industry. It could also be the writing on the wall with all of the government regulation. There is a reason why the Big 3 are sitting on a huge inventory of green auto's. No one wants them. As for leaving a carbon footprint, well let's put it this way. Carbon was here before me and it will be here long after I go.

Please don't tell me that we have to save the planet for our children. President Obama's current spending plan will more than bankrupt them for most of their adult lifetimes. Why would I want to leave them a Nirvana when they have no money to spend.

I am tired of the current administrations' tax and spend policies. There is no need to live for them moment when we should be saving for the future. By the way as for the proposal to give out cash to buy vehicles, I believe this to be a joke. The government already tried giving away houses and it didn't work, why should we give away cars too. If this were to happen, I would gladly take the money and put money into a tax-free money market account.
