PETA Urges Obama to Give Kids Vegetarian School Lunches

There is no reason to kill, antagonize, and torture innocent animals. Its pointless! So many people who love animals are idiots! they think that by owning a dog or two counts as being nice to animals, but that is total crap! you still sit there and eat an animal who was tortured beyond belief, born to DIE, and then thrown onto a plate without any respect. Would you eat your cat for breakfast? Yeah, well if you had gotten to know that cow or pig you would have gotten just as close to them as to any other animal. Vegetarian meals at schools are exactly what we need. It isnt easy to take a good meal to school for a vegetarian student. no matter whether meat or not, making food is hard sometimes! The cooks at schools should be using their time wisely by making food for all students. in a way, it is sort of racist. like they wouldnt respect you for your religious beliefs, they are not respecting vegetarians for our eating beliefs. its rude and annoying. it takes just as long to whip up a veggy burger as it does to make any meat foods. they are just too darn lazy to make both.

At my school in Denver, Co we have to bottom of the pile lunches. All the fat and greasy foods and people cant do a pushup put they can reach to get the bag of hot-cheetos. Im trying to make the lunches healthy and put some vegan options in them. I hope PETA and MFA just keep trying!

grezt comments here, here's mine: I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years, and my belief is that 99% of the economic problems are a direct result of animal agriculture, and oil run vehicles, factories and machinery. Electric technology for cars, vehicles, and the like was already here at the turn of the 20th century, is still here today, and the mass worldwide pollution is a result of flagrant disregard for appropriate technology in favor of wealth producing oil for a handfull of people and corporations!

And what is the result? The world is a place of misery currently for all people and living beings due to the addiction of oil and meat..............sad, sad, world.........the only solution is to change the legal system making it illegal to buy, sell, or eat meat, and illegal to raise animals for slaughtering. I sincerely believe unless this is done by governments worldwide, we will continue to see degradation of teh enviornment and enourmous health problems amongst the population. It's time for change at top levels of government!

But the truth is that PETA goes above and beyond to bring into the public eye what most people would never dream goes on behind the scenes. They have brought an end to many animal related atrocities. They are not trying to dictate others' lives, but urging others to speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves. The fact that you would rather bash PETA and ignore the cruel treatment of animals does not mean that the cruelty doesn't continue, it just means that you don't care enough to try and change it. So stop trying to justify it with some lame comment about grass eating tree huggers! And I certainly don't understand how feeding children vegetables would hurt them. If schools would serve more fresh vegetables it might actually be the only healthy thing some of the kids eat all day. Too many parents are caught up with "quick and easy meals" and not healthy stuff. And yes, I am a full time working mother before anyone goes off on THAT tangent.

PS- for the lady who grew up raising cattle-- common practice doesn't mean uncruel, and as for the alec baldwin comment---- uhhhhh..... where do calves come from genius????

I love the idea of vegetarian lunches in schools. My son (7 years old) is a vegetarian, but there are very, very few vegetarian options in the school lunchroom. So every day for school I pack a cold lunch for him. I find it a little unfair that he doesn't have a hot meal option because he chooses to eat healthy. It's almost like punishing him for making good choices. Even if the schools didn't go TOTALLY vegetarian, there should at least be healthy options. The lunch menu at the elementary schools where I live are terrible. THANKS FOR SPEAKING OUT PETA!!!!

I just commented, read more comments, and have to say that I DON'T EAT GRASS! (or foie GRAS. get it grass gras?) The only time I would eat grass is if I had to survive in the wild and there was nothing else to eat but animals. If you don't want to be a vegetarian, fine. But you will just end up unhealthy, overweight, and cruel. If I have a chance, I will protest at a park or somewhere else with a lot of people about cruelty to animals.

I am a vegetarian, the only one I know of at my school. I always get picked on by everyone because the think they are better than me because the kill animals by eating them. Anyway, the only vegetarian food they have is toasted cheese w/tomato soup, which they barely have, or pepperoni pizza if the meat doesn't get shipped in. I would love if there were more food options for vegetarians; and more vegetarian kids. It would be nice if they had an all vegetarian school close by. That would be awesome.

If your a vegetarian, fine cool. Eat your plants. But dont make me eat that. How is it right to offer only veggie lunches, and no meat?

How about i offer only steak, brisket, or ribs for lunch? NO GREENS OF ANY SORT!

it doesnt make sense either way.

We all know PETA is full of insane.. Loons. So they can not be taken seriously.

healthier lunches, sure

vegetarian only lunches, no way in hell

I was brought up a vegetarian. I had to carry my lunch to school. The kids I graduated from high school with are now in their late 30s as I am. I am female, 5ft 8inches 118 lbs, healthy, normal blood lipid levels, normal blood pressure no problems. It might be genes but I think it is my vegetarian, lowfat, low sugar, high fiber diet. Most of those kids I graduated with are obese and have health problems.

I wasn't born wealthy, never been wealthy and I work hard every day so no, I am not a "hippie tree hugger who never worked a day in my life.

As a parent, I want to see ALL children have access to more fruits, vegetables, and meatless options in the school lunch line. There’s a doctors group that’s collecting signatures to try to get vegetarian options in school lunches. It’s online at www.HealthySchoolLunches.org.
