-Genocide-

In Sri Lanka today, there are a variety of issues that are tearing their country apart. The Sri Lankan government has publicly stated that they are commited to peace, but with each day that goes by, Sri Lankan Tamils are oppressed and deprived of the basic human rights. Article one of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. Sri Lankan Tamils are also deprived of numerous human rights, as well as the violation of the UN charter and millenium goals. In 2009, the UN estimates they found 50,000 huddled together, sick, and injured with no food or water. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE, the only Sri Lankan terrorist group that once had an army) were holding out against the UN army. The Ministry of Defence says that the liberation’s groups offer of a ceasefire is a ‘joke’, and wasn’t taken seriously. One investigating UN official was sent to the site, and comments that the area was very much like ‘the gates of hell’.

Whats going on in Sri Lanka is very serious, and instead of you two calling each other names like two 8 year old idiots, fight for a change in Sri Lanka because god knows, they need it.

Then what happened to the Hindu-Tamils? Vedhas who worships nature?? Moors Muslims as traders?? Do you know there were other christian groups as well from Gova?? Learn your History before you say something Sanjeewani!!! Do you even know the orgin of your name?? you think its a Sinhala name dropped from heaven from Sinhala god?? Noooop it's from India... And guess what else is from India... "lord Budha"... so if conversions are unethical and criminal act--- "Lord Budha" should be the first one to be in prison, becuz when his 3 muskateers (missionaries)arrived in SL, they taught budhism to non-educated, tribal, rural people.... they worshiped rocks, trees, sun, moon.... and Budhists missionaries "enlightened" them !!! So all of those first Budhists missionaries should be charged before charging the Christians... DON'T MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SRI LANKA BELONGS TO ONLY SINHALA-BUDHISTS--- Some fools made that mistake sometimes back which ended up in a bloody war which took thousands of lives and took SLanka back to stone age economically and politically !!! Stupid idiots like you are the ones who ruin our mother Lanka that could have been THE REAL PEARL Of the indian ocean !!

Hey Rose, think to your self how much money have you spent on a poor person during the last few yrs??? How about your own people in Sri Lanka?? I'm a sri lankan too idiot ... but I'm NOT prideful, ignorant and arrogant like you to say that we are not receiving funds/charity/aid from other countries... Get a Brain first and realize why are we in the "3rd world" zone?? When was the last time you have visited north/east, or other rural parts of the Island?? Checkout the stats how much money being flown from Worldbank/UN/US government each yr to keep the country going... Check out the stats how much we owe others....?? You know when Tsunami was hit, Germany and many nations reduced our debts and basically let us have money for free Idiot!!! USA was and is THE biggest contributor on personal and governmental charity to SL... so just DON'T STUPIDLY RUN YOUR MOUTH AND RUIN IT FOR OTHER'S WHO REALLY NEEDS IT !!!

In another note, don't get "west" mixed up with "christians" .... not all the western countries are full of Christians... Christians don't represent a Country... they do good deeds ONLY becuz the teachings of Jesus ! Non-Violence and "Love your neighbor even your enemy "is what they teach. If Budhist extremist "monks" thinks that doing good to someone is "unethical", they must be smoking something called "marijuana" while meditating!! If people wants to choose between a religion, or even not to have a religion... that's called "HUMAN RIGHTS" .... Rose and the line of Orangy monkies, please go back to school from grade 1 and come back and talk to me... JUST DON'T LET YOUR PRIDE COME BEFORE YOUR MOUTH ! Thanks.

ROFL LMAO

What a crock?? We do not even have religious tolerance in the United States! We have a bunch of talking heads pushing their beliefs on us but are not tolerant of others belief's. Something along the lines of - clean your own house before cleaning someone else's.

Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation and no need to have a second opinion from failed western. Just mind your business and try to get the middle east problems solved first that you created.

M.Wickremasinghe is an idiot who is inviting troubles to home. I have several catholic relatives that we never find a problem being with each other. M.Wickremasinghe is an clear example that western are trying to make in peaceful Sri Lankan society. These kind of idiots are taught by christian invasion to think as a minority, criticize our cultural values, and further execute what ever westerners want to impose on us. You would be successful to jeopardize our country if it were UNP government which is also led by Christians like M.Wickremasinghe. I insist that M.Wickremasinghe is not a sinhalese as his name sounds like. Sinhalese have managed to exist because of sinhala-buddhist culture which always identifies the threat and solution. M.Wickremasinghe is not a sinhalese because he has not digested sinhala culture or values and act against us. There are many examples one can find that many Christians and Catholics are in the mains patriotic streams along with us.

M.Wickremasinghe is a great lair too. Some elements, including some UNPers, indeed try to defeat the national movement (i.e Mahinda Rajapaksa) in 2005 presidential election by using the fact that Mahinda's wife is christian. Nobody cared that because it was not a point at all to change an government. In fact, several christian prime ministers (like president those days) lead the country, including Ranil Wickramasinghe and John Kothalawala. All those leaders failed to provide the right solution because they have not digested real cultural values to identify the problem. We are witnessing the end of a dark era, the LTTE terrorism which is also a Christian backed movement, of our great history.

If Sinhalese were such bad as M.Wickremasinghe pointed out, the first lady would be converted to Buddhism, but it's not such.

According to our history we can clearly recognize enemies and traitors, like M.Wickremasinghe, among us. We kindly ask M.Wickremasinghes to go and find refugee in the west where you feel most comfortable.

This article appeared in the Asian Tribune. The problem is with tring to uphold the values in a country that has been in civil strife for almost 30 years.

Sri Lanka reaffirms commitment to uphold values of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Colombo, 10 December, 2008 (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his message to mark the 60th anniversary of the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, reaffirmed the renewed commitment of Sri Lanka in upholding the values and goals proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

First off I believe that the Govt should stay out of Religion. Period!

In all known human history religion has mainly been evil, and has only done very few good. It has separated people, land, killed, destroyed etc. The evil that it has bought us humans far outweighs any and all little good it has done. If you don't believe me go to a library and read the history books (not those fake religious texts) on it. And yes it (religion) doesn't even make freaking sense... god created man out of dust... oh please; at least make some sense (but wait... this is religion i'm talking about, so it doesn't have to), then there are the religions where there are many gods.

If a person has to do good, just do it, not cos any freaking god(s) and or religion(s). Most of you critics might argue that science has a theory that everything began from a single point... true, but that's a theory! and the best we have unless it's proven otherwise (and religion doesn't even come close). On the contrary religion is written in stone... and ppl just blindly believe it. Use your brains! I can't believe that in this day and age religion still prevails. Shows how many just don't think.

If the people of SL want to change their religion or not to belive in it.. it's their choice! The last time i checked we were a democratic govt (socialist and republic too, but mainly demo-- IMHO). Govt of SL stop telling us how to live our lives. If anything put out a bill for all those religious sermons that cause noise pollution, stupid religious fanatics. The next thing the govt will try to impose a ban on certain religions... and it will not stop.

Q: Can god make a stone so heavy that he can't lift it ? (this was a question i read in a book.). Try thinking about that and answering it.

Being a Sri Lankan myself, I am appalled by the blatent falsity of your email. Sri Lankans, through past and present history are not doing very much to take care of their citizens. Do you live in Sri Lanka? Have you seen the conditions of the roads? The Sewers? The Shanti towns? The state of absolute powerty that has been caused by a war that has torn the nation of decades? If you think that you, as a Sri Linkan, can take care of your own, you obviously might be speaking for just yourself and not the 20 million people who live their in fear. Idiots and imbeciles like you are why my country is in such a shamble!

Before 1500 all were Buddhist? Constitution protects all religious minorities? As a Catholic, my Hindu relatives and Muslim neighbors would strongly disagree with all this nonsense. Lasantha Wickrematunga may also have disagreed, if he was still alive that is.

Here something for the more critical to review and consider:

To whoever says there is religious freedom in Sri Lanka (even without the Bill), either you are being blatantly ignorant or you choose what you want to hear.

There have been innumerable instances where churches have been burnt to the ground, church clergy been subject to assault and even death. Please talk about facts, not a fantasy world that you have created for yourself. Read the newspapers, get informed about what is happening around you - don't fool yourself.

With regard to the Bill, the problem is that it is too vague and too ambigious to achieve its supposed aims. Key words are not properly defined, either due to limitations in language or intentionally.

With regard to people who want to comment on this, please read the proposed Bill first. You can't possibly comment on it without knowing its contents...?
