Sen. Edward Kennedy's hometown paper, the Boston Globe, seems to be preparing for the end of the Teddy Kennedy era. Editors and reporters are putting the finishing touches on a mostly glowing biography of the liberal lion. Ted Kennedy, Scenes from an Epic Life ($28), is due out March 3. We've seen a copy, and it is a walk through modern Democratic history from Kennedy's viewpoint, featuring many Kennedy clan shots. The 208-page book devotes just two pages of words and two of pictures to the tragic 1969 Chappaquiddick accident in which Mary Jo Kopechne died after Kennedy's car flipped into a Martha's Vineyard channel.

Dear Ted:

What are going to be your first words to Mary Jo when you meet her on the other side?

Nothing you accomplished in your political life was equal to the value of that woman's life.

Ted has been a remarkable public servant. He like all had flaws but his life time of work and advocating for the people admirable.

Politics is a tough profession and at times brings out the worst in folks, on balance the good far outweighed the bad. It is unfortunate that he chose not to have a better relationship with the Clintons, I suspect the Kennedy ego would not permit that.

I hope many more productive years for Ted, he and his family gave more to the people of America than he took and had taken from him more than he should.
