Our son was part of the Walther Lutheran Close Up group that went to Washington DC. He had a fantastic experience. Our son said the Close Up instructors were excellent. He gained a lot of knowledge about democracy, the Supreme Court and the Presidency .

There were mixed opinions in the crowd while me and the rest of the close up students watched the results of the presdential election. ALL of the students from Ak were routin' for McCain and ALL the students from Chicago were routin' for Obama. So you can imagine the tention in between the students. The Ak kids rollin gthere eyes every time the Chicago students screamed for Obama and vice versa. All together it was a great experience!! I being one of the students from Wasilla was thrilled to be in D.C. a big city for once. and Im very excited to have Sarah Palin back in her home town.

I hope that the Alaskan students were told that their fellow students come from a city that has the highest MURDER rate in the USA!

What a fantastic opportunity for students! We have a group of students from here in Montana (Flathead High, Kalispell, MT) participating on the Close Up election week program as well. Not only are they excited about being in DC for election week, but having students from Wasilla and Chicago will make their experience even more exciting. Kudos to the Close Up Foundation and the teachers who make this program possible!
