What's the best way to recover from a political convention? Shopping, of course. Fresh from a raucous standing ovation at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, first lady Laura Bush hit Georgetown's John Rosselli & Associates, a chic purveyor of antiques and furnishings. "She likes to come in and look at everything that's new," says Matthew Esposito, an associate at the store. Bush and sister-in-law Margaret checked out some fancy chairs upholstered in teal fabric by le gracieux but left empty-handed. Turns out she's a regular, recently helping daughter Jenna and son-in-law Henry Hager furnish their home in Baltimore. "She's lovely," Esposito says of Laura. "We love having her here."

Laura is beginning to relax. Soon she hopes to pass off her husband's failings onto John McCain while blaming Obama for all of them.
