Gas Tax Holiday at GOP Convention?

May 9, 2008 RSS Feed Print

Sen. John McCain's proposal to suspend the federal gas tax as prices jump might make it into the Republican Party national platform at the GOP convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul, we hear. It's a lock if Sen. Barack Obama, who scoffs that it won't save much, is the Democratic nominee.

McCain will be an idiot if he proposes to suspend the gas tax (which funds infrastructure improvements) in the Twin Cities where the I-35 Bridge collapsed due to shoddy maintenance. This is pandering and everyone knows it. It didn't work for Clinton and it definitely will not work for McCain.
