Preservationists Dig Land Crash

Not everybody is boohooing the real estate market crash. Preservationists say that the huge drop in demand and price for land means they can gobble up targeted areas for a lot less. Take the Civil War Preservation Trust, which is trying to double the 25,000 acres of battlefields and sacred areas it has saved. President James Lighthizer says, "We're stepping up land-preservation efforts in many markets experiencing a temporary lull in real estate development."
