Mourning In the Civil War Family

We've got some really sad news today. It's about the son of Jim Lighthizer, the likable champion and president of the Civil War Preservation Trust. The group says Conor Lighthizer, 28, died last week while he and his dad were hiking in California's King's Canyon National Park. The September 5 death was a "heavy blow" to the family, as you can imagine, we're told. We've known Jim since he was transportation secretary for former Maryland Gov. William Donald Schaefer. In fact, we lunched with him recently over burgers and beer. He's really turned the Trust into a dynamo, raising gobs to protect Civil War battlefields from the Wal-Marts and Toll Brothers of the world. Contributions should be sent to the Maryland Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
