Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has been on the Colbert Report a record six times—but if you’ve caught him there, you’ve likely only seen a few minutes of footage.

Last year, Stephen Colbert stepped out of character for a lengthy interview about science, technology, and its role in society with the scientist, who has been awarded the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, served on the Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry, and currently hosts PBS’ NOVA scienceNOW.

Earlier this week, deGrasse uploaded the video, and it’s fascinating. It's funny, but it's not a joke—they discuss the beauty of science, when deGrasse first knew he wanted to be an astrophysicist, and what makes a scientist. Check it out below if you’ve got an hour or so to burn. After a brief introduction, the interview starts about seven minutes in.
