How Toyota and Honda Helped Detroit Recover

Certainly won't be buying Rick's book as this article clearly depicts a lack of research, analysis and sound assessment. Toyota and Honda suffered from floods in Japan and Thailand. Rick, Do you really think any manufacturer can rebuild over night? Toyota was additionally conked over the head by fasle allegations of UA driven by Rick style poor journalism. And, finally, any idea why Toyota brand loyalty, qaulity and customer satisfaction is the industry envy?

No wonder I cancelled my subscription to this rag years ago, just dawned on me.

Hey Rick did you notice who had the #1 Retail Sales share in March? Yes it was Toyota.

The earthquake was mentioned in the 4th paragraph. Detroit is far from repaired and GM and Obama are not bed fellows

Funny how Rick Newman left out the fact that Japan expereiced the worst natural disaster in history and the fact that Toyota and Honda lost about 60% of prodcution for almost 8 months.

Somehow GM and Obama are taking credit for repairing Detriot... You should predict the next 24 months and see where market share ends up... Both Japanese giants have a ton of new product in the pipeline. And by the way, those cars dont break.

All makers should be concerned about lossing share to the Koreans.

I bought 5 Honda's in a row. I still respect the brand but simply got bored with the offerings. I scooped up a Subaru Outback because it fit a niche that Honda couldn't. I needed a reliable utilitarian snow machine and the CR-V wasn't all that impressive in weather.

After horrible reliability with 2 VWs (98 & 99 models), I then switched to 2 Toyotas and a Lexus up until 2011.

But after all the safety lies and failures, I vote with my dollars.

I now have 2 EVs, a LEAF and a Mitsubishi.

Sold the Lexus and dumping the Toys after they run their course. The Avalon has 140k miles on it already anyway.

I would go with Subaru before Toyota brands anymore. Don't trust them. Not fun to drive. Not progressive. Goodbye Mr. Toyoda. さよなら。
